The SafeZone Secure Boot solution provides tools for integrating security into an embedded device’s system boot sequence. The SafeZone Secure Boot solution is based on the use of strong cryptography (ECDSA, SHA-2 and AES) to protect the boot process of SoCs and Application Processors.
It is implemented in following layers:

  • Integrity + Authenticity: This layer ensures that the system only boots images that are verifiably from a trusted source, without any changes introduced to the images. Thus, this layer protects against tampering.
  • Confidentiality + Anti-Cloning: This layer protects images from being examined by encrypting the image using strong cryptography. By using product-line specific encryption keys, the protected images are also prevented from being used on other product lines.
  • Rollback: This layer protects against installing of older images that are revoked due to for example security bugs, which are typically fixed in maintenance updates. The Rollback identifier is an attribute. Note: Rollback protection requires special hardware.
