Inside Secure wins the jury’s “special achievement” prize in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Mediterranean Awards 2011

The company has grown rapidly over the past five years and is reaping the rewards of its longstanding investment in near field communication (NFC), a market that is really taking off

Aix-en-Provence, November 10, 2011 - Inside Secure, a leader in semiconductor solutions for secure transactions and digital identity, has been awarded the jury’s “special achievement” prize in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Mediterranean Awards 2011.

The special achievement prize is awarded to the company whose innovation strategy is judged the most successful. In addition to Inside Secure’s rapid growth over the past five years, the Deloitte jury praised the company’s business model, which combines different elements to support its expansion in the face of the competition: a strong focus on innovation, an international dimension, and visionary management. For INSIDE, this is a recognition of its efforts over the past few years and gives it added motivation to continue gaining market share at the world level.

Inside Secure’s revenues bounded by 318% between 2006 and 2010, when they totaled $78 million. The company now employs 355 people, over half of whom are engaged in R&D, more than five times as many as in 2006. On October 25 the company announced that it had reached the milestone of 10 million NFC chips delivered to customers, and it continues to gain market share in this very competitive business, which is really taking off.

Inside Secure has already picked up several Deloitte Technology Fast 50 awards. It won the OSEO innovation prize in 2007, followed by the prize in the Semiconductors, Electronics and Components category in 2009.

“By awarding it the special achievement prize of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Mediterranean Awards, we sought to point up Inside Secure for its consistently innovative strategy and its ability to adapt”, explained Hugues Desgranges, an associate director of Deloitte. “The company’s acquisition of Atmel’s Secure Microcontroller Solutions division has enabled it to keep one step ahead when it comes to innovation on the secure semiconductors market.”

The Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards produces an annual ranking of the 50 top-performing technology companies in each of seven different regions of France (Greater Paris, the North, the West, the South-West, the Mediterranean, Rhône-Alpes/Auvergne, and the East). The Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Mediterranean awards ceremony took place in Marseilles on November 9. A total of 70 companies entered the competition this year, which was 20% more than in 2010 despite the introduction of more stringent selection criteria.

There are three types of selection criteria. The candidate has to be a technology company – either through possession of a patented technology or through the manufacture of a technological product – and it has to devote at least 15% of its revenues to R&D. It must have had a turnover of more than 50,000 euros in the first year. Its head office has to be in France and it cannot be more than 50% owned by another company. Lastly, it has to have completed at least four full financial years.
